Of late, while doing research I've often ended up reading about notable people in history who do art on the side. I love reading about a psychiatrist who mainly publish books about psychology, but who's also published a book featuring his own bird cartoons(Robert Jay Lifton). I am so delighted to see this that I've started to collect their names and to keep them here, in this ever-expanding list.

In the words of Dani Rojas, were he an artist instead of a footballer...

• Friedrich Engles
  Philosopher, journalist. Sketch and cartoon artist.
• Robert Jay lifton
  Psychiatrist, writer. Draws humorous cartoons involving birds.
• Robert Baden-Powell
  British Army Officer, founder of the Boy Scouts Association. Could draw with both hands, liked to make caricatures of people attending meetings he attended, often drew for his own publications.
• Nikolai Bukharin
  Russian revolutionary, politician and theorist. A caricaturist, would draw cartoons of contemporary Soviet politicians.
• William Makepeace Thackeray
  Writer.
• Flannery O’Connor
  Writer. She often said that she could draw better than she could write. She was an avid cartoonist and painter.
• John Updike
  Novelist, art and literary critic.
• Guy Davenport
  Writer, teacher, translator. Had a little-talked-about life as a painter and cartoonist. He drew satirical illustrations for literary critic publications, he also enjoyed producing illustrations to accompany hisown stories.
